The Australian Business Awards is delighted to recognise Domestic & General Insurance as recipients of The Australian Business Award for Service Excellence in its industry classification for 2013.

The Domestic & General Insurance is an extended warranty business providing underwriting, full policy administration, direct marketing, customer service facilities and expertise to customers and clients. Domestic & General have come a long way from humble beginnings in the West Australian outback, where Samuel Copley in 1912 founded the Western Australian Insurance Company Limited. It now provides insurance for an extensive suite of domestic appliances including kitchen, laundry and home entertainment. In 2012, Domestic & General celebrated 100 years in the business.

Domestic and General strives to continually improve the quality of service provided. Ongoing evaluation is undertaken of repair network with customers surveyed upon completion of a repair. Domestic & General introduced the Total Excellence and Quality awards into Australia in 2011. The awards are determined through the post-repair customer questionnaires. These look at every aspect of the repair process. The TEQ awards are a unique program that rewards great service. Survey information is also used to calculate a Quality Points Score, allowing a ranking of repair agents and determining an annual winner.  The introduction of these awards into the Australian market has had a positive impact on service standards.
